Trongsa
Trongsa is about four hours drive from Wangduephodrang. The Dzong was built in 1648 and is the ancestral home of the Royal Family. Both the first and the second king ruled the country from this place. All four kings held the post of Trongsa Penlop (honorary governor) prior to being crowned as the King. Apart from the breathtaking scenery, the most notable feature is the Trongsa Dzong, which is the biggest Dzong in Bhutan.

Ta Dzong: This is used to be the watch tower, built primarily to guard the Dzong from internal rebellion. It stands impressively over a ridge above the Dzong. Now this is new museum.
Chendebji Chorten: En route to Trongsa is the Chendebji Chorten, designed on Swayambhunath temple in Katmandu. It was built in 19th century by Lama Shida, to cover the remains of an evil spirit that was killed at this spot.
