Trashigang

Located approximately 3 hours drive from Mongar, Trashigang is said to be one of the oldest town in the east and is one of the largest districts in Bhutan. There are numbers of places to be seen in Trashigang. Trashing boasts a number of monasteries, temples, a weaving centre, school for the blind and disables and the Bhutan’s only degree college, Sherubtse College (the peak of learning).

Approximately 24 kilometres from Trashigang is the sacred temple of Gomphu Kora, popularly know as Gom Kora. The temple is revered as one of the sacred sites in eastern Bhutan. It is believed that Guru Rinpoche meditated here in order to subdue a demon that dwelt in a big rock.
