Home >> Destination in Bhutan >> Mongar
The journey from Bumthang to Mongar is one of the most beautiful in the Himalayas, crossing 3,800 meter high Thrumshingla pass. Mongar marks the beginning of eastern Bhutan, the largest town in the subtropical east.
Site to be seen in Mongar is the Mongar Dzong, one of the newest Dzongs, built only in 1953. However, the Dzong is built in the same architectural design and traditions that any other Dzongs are built. So, no drawing or nails have been used in building the Dzong. A visit to the Dzong would give any visitor an impression of how traditional Bhutanese architecture has continued to thrive through the centuries till present day.
